What Do All the Cronus Zen Buttons Do?
If you've just bought a Cronus Zen, the buttons around the OLED screen can be confusing at first.
Fortunately, there aren't many to learn. The main controls are the two large blue P1 and P2 buttons beside the OLED screen and the smaller reset button.
Here's what they do.
P1 — Memory Slot Button
The P1 button is the large blue button on the right side of the Cronus Zen OLED screen.
Its main purpose is to move through the Zen's programmed memory slots.
Pressing the button cycles between the scripts and GamePacks stored on your Cronus Zen. The OLED display changes to show which slot is currently selected.
If you continue cycling until the default Collective Minds screen appears, no programmed script or GamePack is currently selected.
This is useful whenever you want to:
- Switch between installed scripts.
- Select another memory slot.
- Disable the currently active script or GamePack.
- Check which slot is currently running.
If you need help putting a script into one of these slots, see our How to Install GPC Scripts on Cronus Zen guide.
P2 — Bluetooth Pairing Button
The P2 button is the large blue button on the left side of the OLED screen.
P2 is primarily used for Bluetooth pairing.
Pressing it places the Cronus Zen into pairing mode for supported wireless devices. The Zen's LEDs will normally begin flashing while it waits for a compatible device to connect.
You then put your controller into its own Bluetooth pairing mode to complete the connection.
The exact pairing process varies depending on the controller and platform you're using.
What Does the Small Reset Button Do?
The Cronus Zen also has a small blue reset button.
A normal press restarts or resynchronizes the Zen without deleting all of your programmed memory slots.
This can be useful when:
- A controller isn't connecting correctly.
- The Zen stops responding.
- You change your connection setup.
- Your console isn't detecting the Zen correctly.
- You need to quickly restart the device.
If Zen Studio isn't recognizing the device, check our Zen Studio Not Detecting Cronus Zen guide.
Reset Button + USB Connection — Bootloader Mode
The small reset button also has another important function.
If you hold the reset button while connecting the Cronus Zen through its CONSOLE/PC USB port, the Zen can enter its bootloader mode.
You'll mainly use this when updating the device's firmware.
Once the bootloader is active, the OLED display should indicate that the Zen is in bootloader mode.
For the complete process, follow our Cronus Zen Firmware Update Guide.
P1 + P2 — Hard Reset
The two large buttons can also be used together.
Holding P1 and P2 simultaneously while connecting the Zen through the CONSOLE/PC USB port can perform a hard reset.
This is different from simply tapping the reset button.
A hard reset returns the Cronus Zen to its original configuration, so it should generally be reserved for troubleshooting situations where a normal restart hasn't fixed the problem.
Important: A hard reset can remove saved device configuration and memory-slot data. Make sure you still have copies of any scripts you need before performing one.
Quick Cronus Zen Button Guide
P1 — Right large blue button
Cycles through the Cronus Zen memory slots and lets you select installed scripts or GamePacks.
P2 — Left large blue button
Activates Bluetooth pairing mode for supported wireless devices.
Small Reset Button — Quick press
Restarts/resynchronizes the Cronus Zen.
Reset Button + Connect USB
Starts the Zen in bootloader mode for firmware updates.
P1 + P2 + Connect USB
Performs a hard reset for more serious troubleshooting.
What Does the OLED Screen Do?
The OLED display isn't a button, but it works closely with them.
Depending on what you're doing, it can display information such as:
- Active memory slot.
- Script or GamePack information.
- Script menus.
- Device status.
- Bootloader status.
- Startup screens.
Some GPC scripts also use the OLED screen to provide their own custom configuration menus.
Learning Your Cronus Zen
For normal use, the easiest way to remember the buttons is:
P1 = memory slots
P2 = Bluetooth pairing
Reset = restart or bootloader
Once you know those three controls, using and troubleshooting the Cronus Zen becomes much easier.
