Current PS5 bypass status

Cronus currently recommends Zen LINK for full native PlayStation 5 support. The older PS5 bypass is described as unofficial and is no longer officially supported, so availability and performance cannot be guaranteed.

Compatibility can change without notice. A PS5 system update, Cronus firmware update or Zen Studio release can alter or remove a legacy workaround. Use the current official PS5 guide as the source of truth.

Recommended

Zen LINK provides the current plug-and-play route for native PS5 support without keeping a Windows PC tethered during gameplay.

Legacy

The old Remote Play or DS4-emulation route may remain visible in Zen Studio, but it should not be treated as guaranteed native PS5 support.

Terms matter

Use third-party devices only where permitted by the game, console and online service rules that apply to your account.

Start clean

Update the Zen, use known data-capable cables and test the controller before loading a script or GamePack.

02

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

What you need

Prepare the hardware below before changing any console or Zen Studio settings.

Cronus Zen

Use current firmware and complete the initial Zen Studio registration before configuring the PS5 connection.

PS5 & DualSense

A PlayStation 5 console and a DualSense or DualSense Edge controller. Use USB during initial testing.

Data USB cables

Use data-capable cables for CONSOLE/PC, PROG and the controller. Charge-only cables can power devices without passing input.

Zen LINK or legacy mode

Zen LINK is the supported option. The legacy method requires a Windows 10/11 PC and a Zen Studio build that still exposes PS Remote Play.

03

BASE CONFIGURATION

Prepare your Cronus Zen

Complete these steps before choosing either PS5 connection method.

1

Update the firmware

Use the rear CONSOLE/PC port and the blue reset button to enter Zen Bootloader, then install the latest release through the official browser updater.

Open firmware updater
2

Install Zen Studio

Download the current Windows version from the official Cronus downloads page. Connect the side PROG port to configure the Zen.

Open official downloads
3

Register and test the controller

Open Zen Studio, complete registration if requested, connect the controller by USB, then use Device Monitor to confirm every button and stick is detected.

Do not troubleshoot a script until the controller works correctly with an empty memory slot.
4

Set PS5 communication to USB

On PS5, open Settings → Accessories → Controller (General) → Communication Method and select Use USB Cable.

Keep the controller connected by USB while confirming the setup.
05

UNSUPPORTED FALLBACK

Legacy PS Remote Play bypass mode

Use this section only when your Zen Studio Device panel still includes Enable PS Remote Play. This mode behaves as DualShock 4 emulation and is not guaranteed to provide native PS5-game support.

Do not assume this will work indefinitely. The official PS5 page marks the bypass as no longer supported and recommends Zen LINK instead.
1

Connect the Zen to your PC

For configuration and testing, connect both the rear CONSOLE/PC cable and the side PROG cable to the Windows PC.

2

Connect the controller to A3

Tap the Zen reset button, wait about five seconds, then connect the controller to A3. Turn it on manually if it does not start automatically.

3

Enable PS Remote Play

In Zen Studio, open the Device panel and select Enable PS Remote Play. Wait for the Zen to reset and reconnect.

This option is used for DualShock 4 emulation. Its presence and behaviour can vary by software version.
4

Test in Device Monitor

Press F3 to open Device Monitor and check that buttons, sticks and triggers respond correctly before moving the Zen to the console.

5

Disconnect PROG and restart

Unplug the side PROG cable, tap the reset button, then connect the rear CONSOLE/PC cable to the PS5. Keep the controller on A3.

A blue controller touchpad light can indicate DS4-emulation mode.
06

FINAL CHECK

Connect, load and test

Test the hardware first, then load your script. This makes it easier to identify whether a problem comes from the PS5 connection or the script configuration.

1

Program the Zen

Connect the PROG cable to the PC, open the GPC file in Zen Studio, compile it, place it in a memory slot and select Program Device.

2

Remove the PROG cable

Disconnect the side PROG cable before gameplay. Leave the rear CONSOLE/PC cable connected to the PS5.

3

Select the correct slot

Use the Zen buttons to select the memory slot containing the script and wait for its startup screen or status message.

4

Test in a safe game area

Confirm normal movement, buttons and menus before enabling script features. Follow any game-specific setup instructions supplied with the script.

Keep testing simple. First confirm the PS5 reads the controller with no script active. Then enable one script feature at a time.

FIX COMMON PROBLEMS

Troubleshooting

The controller disconnects on PS5

Confirm whether you are using Zen LINK or the unsupported legacy bypass. Recheck the PS5 Remote Play, USB communication and network settings. For consistent native PS5 support, use the current Zen LINK method.

Zen Studio does not detect the Zen

Use the side PROG port, replace charge-only cables, try another direct PC USB port and select Device → Find Device. Disconnect unnecessary USB hubs during testing.

The PS5 sees no controller input

Set Communication Method to Use USB Cable, verify the controller is on the correct Zen port, remove the PROG cable, restart the Zen and reconnect the rear CONSOLE/PC cable directly to the PS5.

Zen LINK stays red or will not connect

Confirm the Windows PC and PS5 are on the same compatible Wi-Fi network during initial setup, check that the PS5 has a console name, and move Zen LINK closer to the router.

Headset or controller audio is missing

Connect the DualSense to the Zen by USB, then on PS5 select Settings → Sound → Microphone → Input Device and choose the USB headset. Bluetooth controller pairing does not provide the same audio support.

The script loads but behaves incorrectly

Test with an empty slot first. Then confirm the script is designed for the game and controller, review in-game sensitivity settings and reset any DualSense Edge custom stick curve to its default values.

QUICK ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Does the PS5 Cronus Zen bypass still work?

The official Cronus PS5 page describes the bypass as unofficial and no longer supported. It may work in some configurations, but availability, features and performance are not guaranteed.

What is the recommended PS5 method?

Zen LINK is the current recommended method for native PS5 support. After its initial Windows and Wi-Fi setup, a PC does not need to remain connected while gaming.

Which Zen ports are used with Zen LINK?

Connect the rear CONSOLE/PC port to the PS5, Zen LINK to A1 and the DualSense controller to A3.

Do I need PS Remote Play enabled?

Yes for the official Zen LINK configuration. The legacy Zen Studio mode also uses an Enable PS Remote Play option for DualShock 4 emulation.

Can I use a DualSense Edge controller?

Yes. For scripts that depend on standard stick response, use a profile with the right-stick sensitivity curve, curve adjustment and deadzone set to their default values.

Can the controller power on the PS5?

The official Zen LINK setup disables console Bluetooth, so powering on the PS5 directly from the controller may not be available. Start the console using its power button or supported network method.
